Unmasked
Living unmasked in a world that trains you to believe you are not enough
Living unmasked means believing you are enough. This idea appears in The School for Good and Evil by Soman Chainani and in A Week Away, directed by Alan Powell. Countless articles and books share the belief in being enough.
In this writing, I explore a form of striving that affects our sense of enough: technology. Technology has its usefulness, yet its constant pursuit of more can keep the mask on—the mask that tells us we must strive to feel worthy, important, or whole. It is the mask we wear amid brokenness, doubt, and feelings of insignificance. What if, instead, we chose honesty? What if we questioned our striving? What are we really striving for?
Instead of increasing tech, what could humans pivot to? What dream could you chase if you felt like you didn’t have to strive to be enough?
