Let's Pause
Let’s pause. The world feels heavy lately. It’s sad when people fail to treat others with respect. Even though I don’t have control over how others are treated, I do have control over my own actions. I’m choosing to stay kind, forgiving, and to love my neighbor as myself. To love my neighbor as myself means treating everyone with value. Everyone means everyone—even the people who are failing to treat others with respect*.
Sometimes change takes years. This is me reflecting on perseverance. When the world isn’t ready to change, I’m thankful that I can change. I’m thankful for communities that are ready to change. I’m thankful for organizations that are ready to change. The truth is, there are change makers both big and small. Some choose to change systems, and some choose to smile. I love the quote, “Let your smile change the world,” by Connor Franta.
Unfortunately, bad things are happening. Bad things will happen in the future. People fail. That is the reality of being human. The good news is that growth, resilience, hope, and redemption are possible. It starts with a mindset. The same mindset that helps you rewrite your insecurities into positive inner truths.
It starts with a willingness to change.
*The author Lysa TerKeurst mentions in her book Good Boundaries and Goodbyes, “Forgiveness is a command by God, but reconciliation should be very conditional on many factors-most of all whether all parties involved can stay safe and healthy if they stay together (pg. 313).”
